For Nicholas Lamanna, serving his hardworking clients is a passion both inside and outside of the office.

Getting Started

When Nicholas Lamanna graduated from Old Dominion University, he moved just outside of Manhattan to become a standup comic. He was waiting tables during the day and performing at night but knew he needed to make more money. He didn’t know the first thing about finance, but a hiring manager at a Midtown investment bank decided to take a chance on him. After a year as a stockbroker, Lamanna decided to pursue a master’s degree in finance and started his career at Northwestern Mutual not long after.

Making a Difference

Lamanna works with a variety of clients, but most are young professionals, middle-aged Americans approaching retirement, and blue-collar business owners. He loves being able to help people at every stage of life, learning what’s important to them and helping them craft a plan that aligns with their goals. His practice also allows him freedom to set his own schedule, allowing him to spend time with and be available for his children.

Earlier this year, Lamanna processed his first death claim. His client was in his early 40s and his death came as a shock to his family, but the plans they put in place protected them and gave his widow peace of mind. 

Joining NAIFA

Lamanna joined NAIFA when he began his career at Northwestern Mutual but let his membership lapse after his first year. Prominent NAIFA members like Bruce PalmieriMichael Case, and Adam Griffin inspired him to rejoin. “Hearing them give an overview of where the industry is, why NAIFA is important, why we need to continue to ask people to help support [NAIFA] for our industry finally got me,” he says.

Outside of the Office

When he’s not working, Lamanna loves spending time with his wife and two children. He’s an avid jump roper, numismatist, and reader. His current read is a biography of J.P. Morgan. He also volunteers with the Jewish Federation of Howard County, providing living essentials to his community’s unhoused population and weekend meals for children who receive subsidized lunches at school.
